It's funny how the DesPlaines gets a bad rep because some guys tried to fish it during a flood. In addition, both Sam and Mike have addressed the perceived "peg issue" by spreading competitors out at recent and future events. Looking forward to seeing how things work out at the soon-to-be J-Town Frozen 40's Carp League and the MCAA Thanksgiving Carp Challenge™. I only wish there were more events in October as this month seems to be a prime time for carp catching as they prepare for winter. I think spring and fall can be comparable as far as carp fishing is concerned. We just don't view them in the same light.

In my opinion, the people who bad mouth the Des Plaines in the Joliet area are anti MCAA, not the river.
CAG history shows that more carp are caught in the 'mega events' held in Joliet than any CAG events in Chicago or elsewhere in the USA.
That really makes me feel bad, where is that 3rd twelve pack of Coors?

You're probably right, Sam. Come to think of it, I rarely see many of the green card crew at MCAA events. Go figure. Might be best to figure with a Coors 12 pack.

The venue will not be chummed ahead of time, it will be too spread out to dump bait in any particular area.
The stakes may go up a bit this year, I need to solicit a volunteer to check scales at the sign in.
Has anyone heard from John Gluzak since the rowing canal event?

John's still untangling lines off the 13 boats he snagged!

Appreciate the help offer, Big T. If you really want to help, get more people into the J-Town Frozen 40's Carp league. LOL.

It is amazing that so many don't like to fish that venue. That's why I took it off the league circuit. Maybe I'll start a rotation of venues or add a month. later

Yeah--The JTF40 League is starting in 4 and a half days, so we'll see how it fishes. The only problem is that I saw the high for this coming Saturday is mid-40s. I guess I'll have to get the mobile bivvy prepared. Huge!

It looks as if our little JTF40 league did OK on November 6 despite a tough, tough bite at Jackson Street. It's funny. The peg I thought might produce the least actually did the best on Saturday. But it became obvious what was happening once you took a look at low water levels and lack of current. The fish sought deeper water. That's the luck of the peg draw, boys. As bailybird says. "Location is the key." We have to always keep in mind, though, that the same location can be feast or famine depending on conditions at the time of the fishing session. I'll have more tips and excuses as the JTF40 carp league continues.

Larry S. informed me recently that he was unable to post here. I couldn't find a reason at first, but checked again this morning and noticed that some topics had been locked. I hadn't changed any settings to cause the problem, but I unlocked the topics so you can post. Sorry about the mix-up.--Frank

This thread is about peg draw, but it leads me to ponder a bit about some anti-competition sentiment I've noticed lately on the CAG forum. I don;t know if they got turned off, burned out, or whatever at the Winter Carp league, but a couple guys always post about how much more fun it is to just have a nice time fishing and conversing without competing. I respect that opinion, but if I'm going to spend time away from family and home, I'm more stimulated by a little friendly fishing competition. I'm not against the camaraderie that is built among fellow carp anglers, but the competitive side of it makes it more fun.

I'm interested in seeing how my new peg choice format at Joliet will work. I like the fact that the poor guy in last place gets first choice. If pegs always produced as they are supposed to, that would mean the league would be pretty even (score-wise) throughout its tenure. Of course, there will be aberrations and there will be those who can't get there on time for the choice process. But, it will be interesting.
